Casino blackjack is a card game. While it may be played with a single deck of cards, today it is customary for casino blackjack to use multiple decks of cards, dealt from a shoe. Some casino blackjack dealers shuffle by hand; others use machines to do the dealing and to release cards.

The goal of casino blackjack is for players to get cards that total 21 points. Players attempt to get as close to 21 points as they can (by adding cards to their hands) without going over that total. In casino blackjack, each card is worth the number value printed on the card and Jacks, Queens and Kings are each worth 10 points. Aces can be used to represent 1 or 11 points, whichever is most advantageous for the player.

In casino blackjack, each player places a wager on the table and is dealt two cards. The dealer also receives two cards, but one of them is hidden until all of the players at the table have made their decisions. Each player in turn has the opportunity to request additional cards (hits) or to stand on their hand without taking any more cards. Players may also split a hand, if they received two cards of the same denomination and want to place an additional bet converting their original hand into two hands. Other options in casino blackjack include doubling down, which means betting additional money on the hit or surrendering, which means to give up half of the bet in order to pull out of the game.

Once all of the players have made their decisions, the dealer plays. Generally, the dealer must hit a hand that totals 16 or lower. If the dealer goes over 21, any player who did not exceed 21 wins. Otherwise, each player who has more points than the dealer, without exceeding 21, wins the hand.
